Carbon Footprint Facts

 What is Carbon Footprint?

A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases—mostly carbon dioxide (CO2) and other carbon compounds—emitted by human activity, whether directly or indirectly.

 Example of Carbon Footprint

These activities include the use of fossil fuels for industry, transportation, energy production, and other daily chores.

Besides, Social media use and the keeping of  messages might indirectly increase carbon emissions in the following ways:

1. Data Centres and Servers:To store and handle the enormous amount of data generated by users for social media platforms, large data centres and servers are needed. These data centres require a lot of energy to run continuously, generally from non-renewable sources like coal or natural gas, for cooling and operation. Energy use increases when more data, including communications and media, is stored and processed.

2. Network Infrastructure: Network infrastructure, such as routers, switches, and communication lines, is necessary for data transmission over the internet. The more data that must be communicated (such as when sending and receiving messages), the more energy these components use.

3.Cloud storage or usage of google drives can save images and documentswhich ends up using more storage, thus, using more energy.

Some ways to control carbon footprint:

1. Reduce Energy Consumption: Use energy-efficient appliances, LED lights, and unplug devices when not in use to save electricity.

2. Opt for Renewable Energy:Transition to renewable energy sources like solar or wind power for your home or business.

3. Use Public Transport: Choose public transportation, carpooling, biking, or walking instead of driving alone.

4. Conserve Water: Use water wisely to reduce the energy required for water heating and treatment.

5.Plant Trees: Trees absorb carbon dioxide, so planting trees and supporting reforestation efforts can help offset carbon emissions.

6.Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Minimize waste by following the three Rs and recycling materials to reduce the need for new.

15. Educate Yourself and Others: Learn about the carbon footprint of different activities and share this knowledge with friends and family.

CLIMATE CHANGE LOONING AT LARGE!

The retreat and disappearance of glaciers and the hike in temperature are the most dramatic evidence that the earth's climate is warming, yet who cares? Who is working towards combating all of this? Few incidents from NEWS.

1. Snow shortage in the Swiss resort of Adelboden Switzerland threatens the Ski world cup that is supposed to happen on the 6th of January. Skiers at this resort in Seefeld in western Austria are urged to stick to the slope. According to experts as cited in BBC, Global warming, as they have long warned, global warming will cause warmer and wetter winters. It means skiers with no hope of skiing again on white fluffy snow instead of slushy dripping snow.

2. Glaciologist Christoph Mayer says Germany's five alpine glaciers could disappear within 50 years. And he says, the solution to all these melting glaciers is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

3. The Glaciers that cap Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania will disappear by 2050 as per the UN. The UNESCO report found that regardless of the world's actions to combat climate change, The last glacier cap on Mount Kilimanjaro will melt.

4. The hottest year recorded in Jersey. The average temperature went up by 0.2 Celsius. Climate Change minister Hilary Jeune said, "the figures are another stark reminder of the climate emergency we are facing!". If the world's Big people fail to understand climate change could lead to Jersey's oldest site being lost.

5. The Republic of Ireland recorded the hottest year in 2022.

6. Wetter Arctic region on trending. It is unusual for the Arctic region to receive more rain than snow but it is happening. As per the university of Alaska, the increase in precipitation rose to 15% from 10%.

What does it mean to be a School teacher? Rant-1

What does it mean to be a teacher? School teacher means you need to be demonstrating poise every day. CAN'T WEAR CLOTHES WE LIKE, NO SHORTS! PLEASE NOT EVEN JEANS! IF WE WEAR ONE, EDUCATED ANIMALS WILL BE THE FIRST ONES TO DISSECT WHAT'S WRONG WITH OUR DRESS?  Being a school teacher means, leave your children at home, and prioritize other kids over anything else in the world. What For? Only to be trolled by the students or the society we live in. I remember my College Lecturer, Dr. Yangdon warning us in the last class of my college days that Teacher's life is like a glass house, then I wondered why? But then This hit me hard right now cause I am a teacher and I need to be perfect, and don't do anything for myself and if I don't comply, I get trolled or become the talk of the town. I now realize why. As a teacher, we need to follow certain code of conduct, like so many things which only strains our mental health and nothing else. If readers think, I am being negative, Yes I am cause there isn't anything positive things to talk about. Ask me why?

Teachers are hard working professional.  We don't want to be one but we have to be. if we don't, there will be hundreds of children waiting for us in their classrooms for new things every day. we put their learning first and do not even sleep or eat ourselves only because we need to deliver their lessons on time without failure. And then comes, their notebook that we need to assess and correct without failure, at times even cry and beg them to submit. And some of them will never show their face again in school cause teachers begged them to write and submit their books on time. There again, the teacher will swallow all their pride and humility and call their parents to ask their whereabouts and the biggest irony is, it backfires. Parents will scold teachers for taking care of their children at school.  Teachers are the only beings on the earth who get back all the worst experiences for being too nice.  When I say, students are failing to submit books on time, some critics might say, teachers failure for failing to convince students or for instructing poorly. if we give ZERO, No No! We can't do that, ask me why? We are teachers and teachers are Buddhas! We are not supposed to do that. Teachers live like a zombie, hypocrite zombies cause we are meant to live like that, we can't allow our inner child to come out and be happy! If we don't comply, WE ARE CHILDISH! and if we do, we are deadly serious! NO! NO! teachers ain't supposed to do that! And some experts say, we need to create a conducive environment for the kids in class,  like being very lively, and if we create one, Educated adults will be the first ones to say, DON'T STAY TOO CLOSE WITH STUDENTS!

Forget about all the heavy and hectic work we deliver in our daily lives as a teacher. We have to multi-task and even be their coach for dancing, coach for sports as you can see in the above picture. Madam Babita a class teacher, and working mother of two children needs attention from her and there she is coaching students and by the way, calming students down students to form a group so that they take a good picture for participating in the sports event on November 11 on PCAL's ground (Pendent Cement Authority Limited).

In the above picture, we can see Madam Tshering Pem, trying to convince students while shouting from her lungs why they need to be prepared to deliver their dance at the event successfully. She is a mother, a wife, and a class teacher, and yeah, being a dance coach here while also captaining them to be calm.

Mr. Karchung Dorji, a versatile teacher hosting a game event on November 11 cause he is a teacher and he is supposed to do that.

In black go, Mr. Ashis our youngest member, and Madam Sushmamma and Madam Santa, enjoying the very rare moment in their packed schedule.

I will continue my rant in my next post, follow me for more! Cheers to beings like me and HAPPY VACATION!

Why not in Jaigoan for fun?

"Life is like a Ferris wheel, sometimes you are up. sometimes you are down. In the end you just have to learn how to enjoy the ride".
The Ferris wheel in Jaigoan reminded me how important it is for us to have fun in midst of stressful never ending work which at the end of the day only strains our mental health.  Jaigoan is the nearest town and a business hub in the Alipuduar district in west Bengal, India which connects to Bhutan gate.  The only foreign land that every Bhutanese visited for shopping and trading of goods freely. However, The covid-19 restriction imposed on commuters kept us away from Jaigoan's fair (in local terms Mela) and missed out on the best of amusement.
As a kid, I remember going with mom and dad to Jaigoan to ride those machines for amusement and mostly returned with a thrilling experience. Then all the way to college, I enjoyed and never missed out on Indian's Mela in Banarhat as it was the nearest Mela to Samtse College of Education. The Fair in Jaigoan will be on a bucketlist for 2023 and all the years to come.

Merriam Webster's 2022 word of the year is "Gaslighting"!

Merriam-Webster defines Gaslighting as the psychological manipulation of a person, usually over an extended period of time. When someone manipulates a person, a victim starts questioning the validity of their own thoughts, perceptions of reality, or memories which lead to confusion, low self-esteem, loss of confidence, the uncertainty of one's emotional or mental stability, and a dependency on the perpetrator.

Gaslight, the word was first coined by Patrick Hamilton, who named his play gaslight. The play gas light portrays an actor in a  coercive relationship whereby the husband turns out to be the champion gaslighter and he disregards his wife and her thoughts as a troubled mind.

Gaslight is a manipulation tactic and it is used as a tool to manipulate another person. it can happen everywhere. In the family, at the workplace, and in a romantic relationship. It is like an intentional deception.

Geography Models Presentation

Photo Courtesy, Thank you Mr. Tandin for the blurred photo.

Here we were trying to be John Dewey's follower by getting out of traditional classroom setting as John Dewey described. John Dewey, a pragmatist, educator and philosopher said learning evolves when students passes the teacher's lecture method. Students can learn more when they come together to discuss and create new knowledge.

Jungkook's Performance at FIFA world cup 2022

Fangirling never goes out of fashion! BTS has been my all time favorite KPOP band. They keeps me alive and inspires a lot to be a life time ARMY.

And Jungkook Oppa's performance at FIFA world Cup was just another heart throbbing performance. I die for JK OPPA and his looks at the performance! 💓

I am not the fan of Football cause I only watch one to cheer lead cause i love shouting at the top of my lungs. And I  haven't seen my lover play too cause I would be too busy to spare time for football game. The only best part of FIFA world cup is the theme songs played then. Shakira's Waka waka themes song from 2010 and 2018's world theme song is all i remember. P.s I was forced into watching 2018's world cup so i don't remember anything than the theme song. But I have decided to watch this years cause JK oppa performed there lol. JK oppa never ceases to amaze me. I am sure anti- army must be burning right now and dreamer's going to be most played on my playlist. Saranghae oppa!

Shakespearean's Actors In Venice, on Gomtu HSS's Stage!

William Shakespeare quoted, "All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts". The world is the stage and all of us are constantly pushing ourselves to live better, do better and achieve better. We enter and leave this world abruptly but we all do come and exit with a purpose. And here we are in the street of Venice, on Gomtu Higher Secondary School's stage.

William Shakespeare's plays are still cherished, remembered, and studied all across the world. He believed that Drama is an imitation of real-life events. Thus, there is a need for students to study his play through dramatization.

We often use role-play in a classroom situation to teach drama however, role-play doesn't do justice to the beauty of dramatization. In dramatization, we use props, stage, and costume and the actors get into a character of the play while staging it, giving lives to the dialogues and the book that students open on exam day.

Class XI Arts and Science students of Gomtu Higher Secondary School walked the extra mile to learn William Shakespeare's play through dramatization. They worked for weeks preparing costumes, and props, and practicing drama and were able to bring out a catharsis effect the in the audience. It was fulfilling for me to watch them shine on the stage as their English teacher. Nothing could make me happier than being able to bring out the imagination into reality.

Dramatization may sound old school, but is there any other better way to learn drama than dramatization? Dramas need to be staged to learn!

Thank you for reading!

If this is not fun, then what is?

Once in a lifetime, we stop and look at all the things that happened to us. And those days are these days. The annual sports day at Gomtu Higher Secondary School, Samtse was momentous. Students gathered in school with a lot of excitement for the day and the day was all about fun! Tucked away near an Indian border and two giant cement factories, Dusty and a place that most Bhutanese dread to visit remains monotonous with rare events. However, we had the most fun day in Gomtu.

The camera-shy boy was finally photographed, candid though!

Mr. Tashi Wangchuk is an amiable person and, a very active member of the sports committee of the school.

A Friendship found in a teacher is the greatest gift of all! Miss Galey supporting Ishara in 1500 meters race.

For boys competing in 3000 meters race, tying a belt can ease gastrointestinal (GI) distress.

Running is all about losing the 3000-meter race, lol! Losing is fun when there are a lot of us losing together!

"All work and no play makes Jack a dull Boy", Teachers had their own share of fun with musical chair games that we millennium-age folk enjoys a lot.

Turns out, Hubeen love Taking Pictures!

(Smita Uroan says, Running is the best thing I can do when my days get mundane, and I can win too)

If running isn't fun, then what is?

Sportsmanship in girls! If guys can, of course, we do too!

Ata Kezang, Phub Lham and Ishara bagged the positions for 1500 meter race-open.

Sporting is fun but resting here on tri-level podium is even better!
So last but not the least, Thank You for the most memorable day!
