WHAT IS NEWS HEADLINE?
NEWS Headline is the most important component of the News writing as it expresses the content of the story in gist. It captures the reader’s attention and also serve as the source material for search engine. NEWS headline must be written precisely and specifically. There is no general rule that the NEWS headline should not exceed 10 words however, keeping short is the key to well written News. Using KISS (Keep it short and simple), Method will assist in writing short but informative headlines.
Besides, writing precisely, writer are recommended to use a present tense and active verbs while writing a news as generally news are the current/present affairs. Example: A Man bites a Dog/Man skateboards for homeless. Additionally, News headline must be written in a complete sentence. Example: Crackdown on Trafficking doesn’t tell you who’s doing the trafficking and what kind of trafficking.
As a news writer one need to omit the use of Articles like A, an and the. Moreover, omit the use conjunction. Instead it is recommended to substitute with coma. For instance, President declares peace, holiday. Finally, unidentified Pronouns like “They wins football” cannot be a headline as it do not say or tell who is "they".
